Second Chances (06/07/2007)

The house was silent. Helen and Jake were still at 'work' and Quinn was celebrating the Lawndale Lion's win with a 'sleepover' at Angie's house. Daria sat on the floor of the attic, scribbling away on her note pad. An opened wine cooler sat by her side, besides a red plastic funnel and a broom. It looked like the floor had just been swept.

Daria sighed. Same ol' suicide note. How original.

Dear Mom, Dad and precious Quinny,

This life isn't quite what I expected.
It's just too hard trying to go on with this charade.
See you again, in another life. Or maybe not.

Daria

Daria tapped her pen on the notepad and added a few more lines.

PS. Just so you know Mom, Dad's been screwing Marianne, while you've been screwing Eric. And Quinn's been screwing both of them behind your backs. That is when she isn't too busy with the football team. Sweet, innocent Quinn indeed.

Satisfied, Daria laid the notepad on the floor, positioning it so it would be clearly visible by anyone coming up through the trap door. Reaching into her jacket pocket, Daria pulled out a bottle of pills. She opened the bottle and dropped a whole handful of the pills into the wine cooler, one by one. She then re-capped the wine cooler and shook it vigorously, all the while thinking darkly of how Jane the track star was probably doing the same with Evan except not with a wine cooler.

Guess it's time, thought Daria. She placed her deadly concoction safely to the side and stood up. Daria walked over to the attic door, turned the handle and pulled...

Thump.

The Daria Morgendorffer on the other side had fainted clean away.

Daria smirked. Predictable. How she loved predictability.

Daria poked her head through the doorway, checking to make sure that her 'clone' was alone, ready to slam the door shut, if that wasn't the case. She was alone.

Wasting no time, Daria grabbed a hold of the unconscious girl and dragged her over to her attic. Daria then clambered atop the unconscious Daria, pinning her to the floor with her weight, and grabbed for her funnel and wine cooler. The other Daria started to stir.

Daria forced the funnel into her clone's mouth and mercilessly poured her concoction down her throat. The other Daria's eyes popped open reflecting her fear and confusion. She struggled desperately to toss her captor off, but to no avail. Daria continued to hold her down fast, until her struggling ceased. It took a while, but Daria was patient. Daria waited another 5 minutes after her clone had stopped struggling before she got off her. To be successful, she had to be careful.

Humming quietly to herself, Daria repositioned her clone's body, curling the clone's hands around the empty wine cooler. Daria next took the broom and swept the floor again, removing any potential scuffle marks. The bottle of pills was placed on its side close to her clone, with a few pills scattered on the floor for effect. Last but not least, Daria tossed the red funnel into the next room. She would get rid of it later.

Daria squared her shoulders, straightened her clothes, and stepped into the other attic.

"Better you than me. Goodbye, cruel world," whispered Daria to her clone as she shut the door close.
